One Day. 100 Holes. Yes, Walking.

On July 8, 2013, eight avid golfers will be challenging themselves to play 100 holes of golf and raise money for United Way of Champaign County’s Emerging Community Leaders program (ECL). This first-ever Hundred Hole Hike in Champaign County will be hosted by Urbana Golf & Country Club.
The following golfers will be rising to the challenge for United Way: Shane Allen, Neal Asklund, Randall Green, Tim Hoss Jr., Brian Kelly, and Charlie Nygren. Patrick Rouse and Tyler Rouse will be hiking to support the Wounded Warrior Project.
“I thought the 100 Hole Hike fit very neatly with my desire to do something great by giving back to our community and my desire to play golf. It sounds a bit extreme, but the end result is very rewarding”, said Randall Green, attorney at Meyer Capel, ECL Alumnus and organizer of the Hike in Champaign County.
ECL is a free one year program for young professionals looking to get involved and make a difference in Champaign County. Through a series of seminars, group volunteer opportunities and a team project, class members graduate from the program with the skills and knowledge necessary to be a leader in our community. Over 300 alumni have completed the ECL program since 2005.
Mary Noel, Associate Director of Community Engagement at United Way of Champaign County, said, “We are delighted to be a part of this cutting-edge fundraising event. ECL Alumni can be found on nonprofit boards, as youth mentors, or as in Randy’s case, organizing a unique event like the 100 Hole Hike. This event will ensure the program is sustainable for years to come and we can continue to offer this program free of charge.”
The Hike is sponsored by Busey Bank,, Kraft Foods, First Federal Savings Bank, First Federal Savings Bank & GTPS Insurance, Hickory River Smokehouse, Meyer Capel, A Professional Corp., Rawles, O’Byrne, Stanko, Kepley & Jefferson, PC and Sullivan-Parkhill.
