Application deadline extended to July 1!
Following the astounding success of our Power of the Purse fundraiser on May 7, 2015, United Way is opening scholarship applications to high school seniors and women living in Champaign County who are pursuing an education at Parkland Community College.
These scholarships, based on financial need, are designed to help applicants pursuing an education in the following areas: job training, technical or vocational certification, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Funds will go towards educational or training fees, tuition, or book expenses.
Those interested in submitting an application may visit our website at www.uwayhelps.org/scholarship . Applicants must provide their most recent official transcript and proof of enrollment along with the application materials, and must postmark their submission by June 1, 2015.
We are thrilled that these scholarships are a direct result of Power of the Purse’s mission: to inspire, enhance, and strengthen the lives of women and children by raising funds for education, income and health. We cannot wait to see how efforts by women, for women, will continue to support our community.
Over 100 designer purses and packages were sold at Power of the Purse’s live and silent auction, with other prizes including spa treatments, gourmet cooking classes, hotel stays, and more. We sold 450 tickets in only three weeks, and attendance was boosted by our online bidding system, where supporters were able to participate via smartphone.
We wish to thank all our supporters for their generosity and remind them that in addition to the Parkland College scholarships, Power of the Purse funds are also supporting the Emergency Shelter for Families in Champaign County.
