A new winter overnight emergency shelter will be available for men in Champaign County. The shelter will be open January 1 – March 31, 2017. This shelter effort is a collaboration between local churches, businesses, individuals, and other community organizations. This shelter fills an important gap in services for homeless men. Austin's Place has provided emergency overnight winter shelter for women for the past 10 years.

The CSPH Emergency Shelter Development Team will work together to provide advice and oversight for the shelter staff. C-U at Home will provide training and orientation for the shelter staff if a training component is needed.

This will serve as a pilot for year-round Men’s Emergency Shelter. In three months we will gather valuable information about those in our community who are seeking shelter. It is our hope that this will be a foundation to build upon during 2017, and with multiple cooperating churches at the core, we hope to have a shelter solution before we get to next winter. For more information, email
