Statistics tell us that young professionals care very much about the quality of their communities, and that they're eager to contribute. According to one source, three quarters of people under the age of 28 choose first where they will live before finding a job there. Among 18-24 year olds, almost nine in ten volunteered when asked to do so.

The Emerging Community Leaders is designed to instill a commitment to volunteerism, community service, and individual and corporate philanthropy among young professionals in Champaign County. During the year, ECL activities included opportunities for learning, volunteering, and networking. Participants gained awareness and understanding of non-profit organizations and the crucial role of volunteer leadership to these organizations.

Young leaders with a passion for engagement, ECL class members truly exemplify the spirit of community.

Update from the 2008 ECL Class

The Emerging Community Leaders class of 2008 kicked off the year on March 13, 2008 at Parkland College with a great speed-networking event and ECL and United Way orientation. After the kick-off, ECL's headed to Jupiters at the Crossing to continue getting to know one another. It's going to be a great year!
ECL Alumni also continue to stay active with involvement in Freedom School by investing time volunteering as well as collecting wish list items at every gathering.
