Tax forms on a desk

The 2020 federal tax filing season opened Monday, January 27. Don't pay to file your taxes if you don't need to! Nearly 70% of taxpayers qualify to file their taxes for free. Here are a few free tax filing options for Champaign County residents. The deadline to file your taxes is April 15, 2020.

Free Online Tax Filing

MyFreeTaxes.com

United Way has partnered with industry leader H&R Block to help people easily and accurately file both their federal and state taxes through MyFreeTaxes®.

MyFreeTaxes is the only free, national, online tax filing product offered by a nonprofit, because United Way fights for the financial stability of every person in every community. United Way is committed to ensuring that people can easily and accurately file their taxes to receive the refunds they deserve.

This year there is NO maximum income limit - anyone, with any income, can file a return for free.

MyFreeTaxes is comprehensive and includes most forms for simple returns. However, there are a few forms and/or special tax situations that are not supported by the software. If you need to attach a Schedule C for a side hustle/self-employment, the fee is $25. MyFreeTaxes does not support schedules A, D, E, F, H, K-1, or SE. If you need these forms, you may pay to upgrade to a different product; in most cases for a discounted fee.

MyFreeTaxes is powered by H&R Block’s premium software, so filing is easy, secure and guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Most filers complete their taxes in less than an hour. Nationally, we've helped over 1.1 million taxpayers claim every credit and deduction they're eligible for, bringing over $1.7 billion of refunds back to people!

Visit MyFreeTaxes.com from your smartphone, tablet or computer to start filing today.
